DHHS Awards Medicaid Dental Contract to MCNA
Lincoln—The Department of Health and Human Services’ Division of Medicaid and Long-Term Care (MLTC) has named MCNA Insurance Company (MCNA) as its new Medicaid dental benefits manager.
MCNA will begin offering Medicaid dental benefits and services in Nebraska on Oct. 1. In the new system, dental providers will contract with MCNA as part of its network. MCNA will handle claims payment, prior authorizations, and work with providers and Medicaid clients to coordinate dental care. The goal is to provide excellent value-based care to Medicaid clients in a sustainable business model.
“MCNA will be responsible for developing a strong provider network and reaching out to educate members,” said Rocky Thompson, interim director of the Division of Medicaid and Long-Term Care. “We aim to increase preventative dental care and reduce expensive avoidable services.”
MCNA currently manages dental benefits for more than 3.5 million children and adults in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Iowa and Idaho for Medicaid and CHIP as well as several HMO plans. The company is headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with regional offices in San Antonio and New Orleans.
The company will add a Lincoln office, with Holly Portwood, DDS, a pediatric dentist and adjunct faculty member at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, as Nebraska executive director; Scott Wieting, DDS, a general dentist and past president of the Nebraska Dental Association, as Nebraska dental director, and Gary Lehn, DDS, as Nebraska associate dental director.
