Grand Island Veterans’ Home to co-host Veterans Parade
Grand Island – The Grand Island Veterans Home and Grand Island Senior High School are co-hosting the annual Veterans Parade on Wednesday, November 9th at 2:00 p.m. through the front drive of the Veterans Home’s campus. In addition to the variety of military vehicles and floats, this annual event features the Grand Island “Unity Band,” which is composed of students from all of the Grand Island high schools. The student body of Grand Island Senior High School and Walnut Middle School will participate in a “Respect Walk,” carrying banners and posters that pay tribute to our nation’s veterans. The parade route (and Respect Walk) begins at Grand Island Sr. High School at 2124 N. Lafayette, they will cross Capital Avenue into the Vets Home’s east drive. The parade proceeds through the front drive and exits from the west entrance back across Capital Street, to the high school. Lt. Governor Mike Foley is scheduled to be one of the dignitaries participating in the parade this year.
The purpose of this event is twofold. First, to pay tribute to our men and women who have served, or are serving, in the U.S. Armed Forces. Secondly, to demonstrate to the students the sacrifices our veterans have made and the importance of patriotism.
All veterans and the general public are welcome to attend this annual event. Parking is available in the north parking lot of the Veterans Home campus.
