What is the Autism Waiver?

This is a program to help eligible children with Autism Spectrum Disorder remain in their homes and actively participate in their families and in their communities.

What is the status of the Autism Waiver?

DHHS was directed to develop the Autism Waiver by the Nebraska Legislature. DHHS applied for the Autism Waiver and received written approval from CMS on April 10, 2010. On April 22, 2010, a public hearing was held on the proposed regulations.

The legislation regarding the waiver required the receipt of private matching donations to finance the program. DHHS was notified in July, 2010 that the primary donor has decided not to proceed with its planned financial donation. DHHS remains ready to implement the waiver upon receipt of the private funds required in the statute. We will provide notification on this web page at such time that a donation is made to support the waiver program.
