Norfolk Veterans’ Home Receives Perfect Score Again
Lincoln – The Norfolk Veterans’ Home in Norfolk, Nebraska recently received a perfect score on its annual Health Care System Survey for the third year in a row from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The survey ensures that as a licensed Skilled Nursing Facility all requirements are being met in caring for its members.
The facility, part of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, had no deficiencies in the areas of life safety, resident care, environment, staff training and development, dietary-food service, banking and billing services for veterans, recreation/activities, medical staff credentialing, social work, and all areas related to quality assurance and care.
The VA surveyors were comprised of an interdisciplinary team including three RNs, a Registered Dietician and a Life Safety Code expert from Nebraska, North Carolina, Texas and Arizona.
Some of the team’s comments included: “The staff obviously provides competent and loving care to the NVH members,” “the physical plant is the cleanest facility we have ever seen,” and “members and their families are consistently happy and satisfied.”
“This deficiency-free survey is a testament to a very dedicated staff that truly care about the people they serve,” according to Jerry Eisenhauer, the facility’s administrator. “We are also fortunate to have overwhelming support from our service organizations and hundreds of volunteers. It’s a team effort from everyone connected with Norfolk Veterans’ Home that has allowed us to maintain consistently high standards of care.”
Eisenhauer said he is proud of the NVH staff and is honored to be part of the Nebraska DHHS Division of Veterans’ Homes, which focuses on caring for members and doing the right thing…part of the DHHS mission to help people live better lives.
“The Norfolk Veterans’ Home is truly more than just bricks and mortar,” said John Hilgert, Director of the Division of Veterans’ Homes in the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. “It’s a place that members can truly call “home” because of committed staff members who live the mission of serving America’s heroes.”
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services—Division of Veterans’ Homes includes facilities in Bellevue, Norfolk, Grand Island, and Scottsbluff.
