SAMHSA Seeking Stories about Youths’ Experiences

Lincoln—The federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is sponsoring a “hashtag showcase” in observance of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day on May 8.  The agency is soliciting the stories of youth about their experiences with mental health or substance use challenges via social media.

“Sharing stories about resilience can inspire other youth to pursue their own recoveries,” said Scot L. Adams, director of the Division of Behavioral Health at the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

Stories can be submitted on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Tumblr using the hashtag #IGetSupportFrom.

The social media posts that best illustrate positive examples of peers support for young adults with behavioral health challenges will be showcased at the national launch event on Tuesday, May 6 in Washington, D.C.  You can watch the live Webcast from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. CT at www.samhsa.gov/children.
