Grand Island Veterans’ Home Receives Certificate of Appreciation
Lincoln – A Certificate of Appreciation was recently awarded to the Grand Island Veterans’ Home for serving as a Professional Practice Experience Site for students studying health information management. The certificate was given by Central Community College in Hastings.
GIVH has provided teaching and on-the-job worksite experience since 1997 for students in occupational therapy, health information management and human services programs. To obtain 120 hours of required experiential training, students typically spend one day a week at GIVH throughout the fall or spring semesters, or choose to participate in a three-week block of time.
“Grand Island Veterans’ Home has been pleased to work with many Central Community College students over the years,” said Alex Willford, administrator of Grand Island Veterans’ Home. “The students benefit from direct experience from staff who are specialists in their field and enjoy sharing their knowledge, and from contact with our members. It’s really a great example of partnering with other organizations to mutual advantage.”
The Grand Island Veterans’ Home strives to serve the unique needs of each member by providing high quality services and holistic long-term care in a homelike veterans’ community.  For more information about the DHHS Division of Veterans’ Homes, go to
