Grand Island Veterans’ Home to Hold Veterans Day Program

Lincoln – The Grand Island Veterans’ Home and Grand Island Senior High School are co-hosting the annual Veterans Parade on Monday, November 11th at 2:00 p.m. through the front drive of the Veterans’ Home campus.   In addition to the variety of military vehicles and floats, the event will feature the Grand Island “Unity Band,” composed of students from all Grand Island high schools.  The student bodies of Grand Island Senior High School and Walnut Middle School will participate in a “Respect Walk,” carrying banners and posters that pay tribute to our nation’s veterans.

The purpose of the event is to pay tribute to the men and women who have served, or are serving, in the U.S. Armed Forces. Also, the event is to teach students about the sacrifices veterans have made and the importance of patriotism.

In observance of the 60th anniversary of the end of the Korean War, veterans from that era are invited to ride on a float in the parade.  Those interested in riding on the float should contact Nancy Klimek at (308) 385-6252, ext. 458 for more details.

All veterans and the general public are welcome to attend this annual event.  Parking is available on the west side of the United Veterans Club or in the north parking lot of the Veterans’ Home campus.
