Division of Medicaid and Long-Term Care Director
   Biography
 
Thomas “Rocky” Thompson was named interim director of the Division of Medicaid and Long-Term Care in May 2017 by Governor Pete Ricketts. In this capacity, Rocky oversees the division responsible for the state unit on aging and the provision of health coverage to 240,000 Nebraskans through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. He is responsible for an annual budget exceeding $1.8 million and managing a division with nearly 600 employees.
 
Prior to coming to Nebraska, Rocky served as policy director for the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. In that role, he assisted the state of Louisiana in the state’s movement to managed care with the implementation of the Bayou Health program. He also worked with stakeholders and the Louisiana State Legislature in developing and drafting legislation. Prior to his role with the state of Louisiana, he worked as the Medicaid policy advisor at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
 
A Louisiana native, Rocky earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Tulane University and a law degree from Louisiana State University.
