The Division includes: Protection and Safety Section, including all child welfare services, adult protective services and domestic violence; Office of Juvenile Services including two Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Centers in Kearney and Geneva; and Economic Support Section, including child support enforcement and economic assistance programs such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Aid to Dependent Children, energy assistance, child care subsidy and others. Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts appointed Matt to the position effective August 5, 2017. Previously Wallen served as Chief of Staff to DHHS CEO Courtney Phillips. Additionally he was Director of Constituent Services for U.S. Senator Ben Sasse as well as Chief of Staff to the late Congressman Steven C. LaTourette. He also held the position of Director of Market and Resource Planning for Union Pacific in Omaha. Wallen holds a Master’s Degree in Political Management from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from State University of New York at Fredonia.
