The Nebraska Behavioral Health Services Act (2004) is the enabling legislation that mandates the Division of Behavioral Health's role as the chief behavioral health authority for the state of Nebraska. The Division of Behavioral Health has several advisory groups including the State Advisory Committee on Mental Health Services and the State Advisory Committee on Substance Use Disorders.
The primary purpose of the committees is to provide advice to the Division relating to substance use and mental health services in the state. These committees often meet jointly.
Each committee meets both as a joint committee and as a standing committee on the same day three times a year.
